This special 1/2-day workshop is designed for therapists (PT/PTA, OT/OTA) providing care in the home-based setting.  Administrators, Clinical Directors/Supervisors and QA staff will also find the content relevant and valuable.  Continuing Education for Therapists will be available.

Documentation for Successful Audits

Documentation is key for agencies to show compliance with regulatory and payment policy requirements. This session presented by Karen Vance, BSOT, reviews the sources of those requirements, the documentation elements meeting the requirements, and the consequences for noncompliance. Learning Outcomes for this session include: 

  • Name the sources regulating therapy practice & Documentation in home health
  • List key elements from each regulatory source required in documentation
  • Explain key components of maintenance therapy documentation & examples of 'considerable & taxing effort'

Fit Not Frail: Improving Outcomes for Older Adults in Home Health
In this session presented by Silke Mildenberger, PTA, participants will review the characteristics of aging; discuss the Principles of Self-Efficacy as it relates to therapy, review the latest research and discuss Treatment Approaches to improve outcomes for older adults receiving home health care.  Learning Outcomes for this session include: 

  • Review the characteristics of aging including the physiological changes and discuss the Principles of Self-Efficacy.
  • Review the latest research related to therapy for older adults receiving home health care.
  • Discuss Treatment Approaches for Strength Training including High Intensity Interval Training.

 
Interdisciplinary Approach to Safety and Function in Home Care for People with Dementia
No setting is more impactful for dementia care than the home!  In this session presented by Carrie Ciro, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, participants will explore an interdisciplinary approach to safety and function that maximizes “best” performance in everyday living for people with dementia (PwD). We will explore evaluation strategies that focus on meaningful and purposeful goals for the client and the caregiver.  Interventions will focus on assistive technology and appropriate training strategies for people across the spectrum and severity of dementia. Home modifications that limit elopement and increase in-home safety will be explored. Learning Outcomes for this session include:  

  • Explore and respond to top safety risks for people with dementia in the home
  • Apply strategies to achieve maximal performance in function

Continuing Education
3.0 hours Continuing Education credit for PTs and OTs is being pursued for this program.
